Nirmala Sitharaman to Assess Banks' Cybersecurity Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to chair a high-level virtual meeting on the evening of May 9 to evaluate the cybersecurity preparedness of India’s financial institutions, according to sources.

The meeting comes amid growing concerns over the security of critical banking infrastructure, as tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate.

“The Finance Minister will review the situation today at 4:30 pm. Yes, a comprehensive advisory has been issued on cybersecurity,” a senior government official told Moneycontrol.

The advisory from the ministry has instructed public sector banks and major financial institutions to reinforce their digital security protocols.

Participants in the meeting are expected to include senior officials from the Finance Ministry, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)—which oversees the UPI payments system—and key public sector banks.
